MAC Red Lipstick Comparisons - Russian Red vs. Lady Danger vs. Ruby Woo

L-R: Russian Red, Lady Danger, Ruby Woo

As you can tell by the title, I thought I'd go ahead and compare three of the most popular red Mac lipstick shades: Russian Red, Lady Danger and Ruby Woo. These red shades may look similar, but they all have slightly different finishes and undertones.

Thought this may be helpful if you're maybe um-img and ah-ing over which red tone shade to get out of the three or would just like to see them on. See below for more pictures!

Colours

In terms of colour, these all have different undertones to them.

Russian Red comes off as a deep toned red on my pale skintone which looks a bit vampy. Quite a classic cool toned red with a dark sexy twist. Looks like a pin up shade which would be good for a night out and would suit a lot of different skin tones.

Lady Danger is probably my favourite of the three. It's an orange based red which really brightens up my face and is surprisingly flattering on my pale skin tone. I feel like this one is a great all rounder, always brightens up my all black outfits and can be easily pulled off day to night.

Finally, Ruby Woo is an iconic classic (very) matte blue based red shade. For me, I can really see the berry undertones in this lipstick, especially in the close up shots. I feel that it is different from any other lipsticks that I have and very bright, not for the faint hearted!

Formulas

They are all matte shades but I find them to all have different matte formulas.
Ruby Woo is a classic matte that is very drying on the lips and does slightly 'tug' when applying with the bullet. I would highly recommend that you exfoliate your lips beforehand and add a lip balm too. The upside of it being completely matte is that this thing won't budge. Guaranteed your lips will be a bit stained when you come to take it off but I count that as a good thing as I do love a long lasting lippie.
Lady Danger I feel is the least 'matte' matte formula of them all. For me, it actually feels really moisturing on the lips for a matte shade and I think it has a perfect balance of pigment, matte-ness and comfort. Saying that though, you'll probably need to top this one up the most.
Russian Red I would say is somewhere in the middle of those two matte formulas, although definitely not as drying as Ruby Woo but does have great long lasting power. Still a matte formula but with a very slight hint of moisture almost? And I do find that this one bleeds into my lips more than the others so a lip liner beforehand is a must.

Hello, nice to meet you!

I thought it would make sense that my first blog post be an introduction to myself and the content of my blog. First of all, my name is Lindsay Kate (pretty self explanatory, right?!). I am 24 years old living in the beautiful city of Edinburgh that I grew up in. I have a degree in events management but at the moment I have a regular office job that pays the bills but I do love the people that I work with.

Here are my main interests:

  • I love to travel; it is a passion of mine and if money were no object I'm pretty sure that I'd be on a round the world trip as we speak. I'm one of those people that loves cliched touristy sightseeing stuff but when I'm away I want to cram it all in. Even just travelling within the UK for me is gold! I love London, especially.

  • Fashion, personal style and art is something that I have always been interested in. I love trawling through my favourite blogs for style tips and inspiration along with Youtube and Polyvore. I am certainly no artist but I do like creating the odd sketch/collage in my spare time. I'd say my style in all aspects (fashion, home ware or art) is very monochrome based and fairly simple but with an edge.

  • I'm definitely no expert, but beauty is another one that springs to mind. Whether it's adding to my Mac lipstick collection, discovering a brand new affordable holy grail product or finally mastering that fishtail pleat (nope, not yet) you betcha I'll be all over it.

  • A more recent obsession of mine is food and healthy eating inspiration/recipes. Again, no expert here but it is something that I can spend hours looking through healthy food tumblrs for good influences. Don't worry though, I still love a takeaway as much as the next twenty-something year old. And I'm still working on that, erm, working out thing.

  • As I did study events, I guess I have to throw that in there somewhere too. I feel it does link in with travelling, and creating an amazing memory from an event is one of the best things in life for me. I love attending a good gig or festival - music is obviously up there as an passion too but I didn't mention it 'cause everyone likes music, right? Events in general are fab. I love when the Edinburgh Festival is on every year, there's just so much to do and see!

I feel like I've rambled on enough there for you to get an insight into me. I do feel like this blog will mostly be fashion and beauty based, with the odd lifestyle post appearing here and there.

Please follow me as (I have promised myself) there will be a brand new post every Sunday for y'all. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions please feel free to share them with me.

Thanks so much for reading and congrats for making it to the end haha!

And remember, do more of what makes you happy.
